FOR THE ADMINS...

#1 Post by James314 » Mon Apr 25, 2005 4:09 pm

to all mods/admins - would it not be a good idea to post a sticky on the fan issue? It seems that every week there are a few questions on the fan issue. Its just getting boring to see now and its not helping the tp community understand it more at all. This a thread I helped create with Ero Zsolt, it has loads of links to all the main posts on the subject in this forum and should introduce anyone with fan issues to the key debates - http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.ph ... highlight=

hope it helps!

Send a PM to Bill (Morrow). We're trying to keep the number of stickies down to a manageable level, so it's his call :)

My humble opinion is that this issue should not be with sticky.
Let's go'n'restart :-)

I started to add this to the FAQ, but I don't really think it belongs there. Perhaps we'll add a new topic to the READ ME FIRST section titled "Subjects which have been beaten to death".

Seriously, why is everyone complaining about this "fan issue"
Is it really that loud?

The T43 is loud relative to the T42.

If all T43's are like it then it's not an issue then, surely?

I've got a noisy T42P! I will try to change the hard drive...
But if the T43 is noisy too it seems that IBM has a problem...

whether one person thinks its worthy of being an issue is irrelevant. Lots of people have questions to ask on the subject and its painful watching the same 'my fan is always on' followed by 'well mine isnt'. At least if there was one collection with all the debates, people can ask more informed questions as well as provide more informed answers. I agree with Nonny, a section with some of the most frequent issues would be great I think. Surely we should stop telling people that the fan is a non-issue when for some it clearly is, having a source of info at a click is better than effectively saying 'you are making it up, stop making a fuss'.

anyway...
