T42 "D" Drive

#1 Post by white avenger » Sun Sep 09, 2012 10:41 pm

I'm wanting to remove the optic drive from mt T42 and substitute an optional D Drive caddy and hard drive for additional storage. Is there any limitation as to the size of hard drive that can be used in this manner? I wanted to use a 750 G drive, but I've tried 2 different ones (Hitachi 5F-750) and neither one would work. The D Drive carriage works with a smaller (80 G) hard drive, so I can only assume that the problem is with the hard drive itself.

And, please, folks, be aware of the fact that my computer knowledge is only about 2 points above nil, so make any answer as simple as possible,

There are 2 types adapter, one for PATA (limited to 320GB) and one for SATA (basically unlimited).
Then there are two versions of each: the cheap knock-offs from China that do not always work, and the real ones from IBM/Lenovo.
Contact TuuS, he has just the right, real adapter for you: http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=102989
