Post the link from Amazon of the one that you bought. Which models did it say it was supposed to fit?
Use http://www.lenovoquickpick.com to see which models use the same ultrabay adapter.

Use the Think Wiki instead:
http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/Ultrabay
It it physically fits in your T41 and the drive physically fits in the tray You can use it. Some non-OEM ones work better than others.
Note some Genuine IBM and Lenovo SATA HDD trays designed for the T60 & T61 have a little plastic tab sticking out that prevents the tray from fitting all the way in the T40 series, but if you cut that plastic tab off, they will fit. I'll try to find and post the forum link on the subject.
Here is a Thinkwiki page on it:

Here are this forum's links. (4th post in this thread has the two most relevant threads I can find).

Basically, the drive interface connector is the same on T40 series and T60 series (but not the Ultrabay battery connector, so don't try it with batteries), but for some reason IBM put that little tab on the SATA trays, even though the T40 series, and even the T30 & T23, could use SATA drives in the Ultrabay....
