Swapping between T42s?

#1 Post by andrzejpw » Tue Apr 26, 2005 12:54 am

Hello,
I am trading my T42 with a forum member. The only difference between the notebooks is the size of the screen. ALL of the other specifications are identical. The same graphics card, etc. Will I simply be able to swap hard drives, and be good to go, or is a format/reinstall the best option?

My experience to contribute is this:

Out of curiosity, I took a HD with the WinXP pre-load for a T42p, and inserted it into an old T40. Booted fine. Went through a flurry of detections of new devices. Rebooted (with prompting) once or twice. Then acted normally.

So, between one T42 and another should be a piece of cake.

Marc

EDIT: PS: Always make an image backup onto other media before trying something like this.
X61 7674-4NU
120 GB HD & 2.0 GB RAM
It just keeps getting better and better...

Not only that,. When I transferred the drive from a new T42 to an old T40, not only did it work perfectly fine, I was able to restore windows on the drive (the restore partition was intact) without it complaining even once! I love IBM's systems integration.
