T42 2373 JTU Wireless connectivity problem

#1 Post by bounje » Tue Sep 18, 2012 10:42 pm

Any help or direction would be GREATLY APPRECIATED!

I am having a problem after reformatting and reinstalling windows (XP) I had trouble locating proper drivers but eventually downloaded them from the lenovo site. Now that they are installed (chipset first) I try to connect to the wireless networks (which I can see in the list) and it shows it is trying to connect but doesn't.

When I try to repair the connection it says it cannot renew the ip address.

I have used Driver Detective to try to help with the possible driver currency issue. I have also tried searching for an older version of the wireless driver which someone had recommended, but the search has brought up no such available software.

I am at my wit's end and ready to smash this machine. Please help me save it!

Any ideas?

Welcome to the forum!

I'd suggest downloading and subsequently running System Update, that should take care of most (if not all) driver/application issues:

Good luck and keep us posted.

Maybe your card is faulty or not properly connected?
Which one is it? (probably Intel 2200BG)

I have been running it no problem for over three years, so it's unlikely. Where do I find the hardware info? When I have no drivers and I check it in the control panel hardware area it says only the port number etc.

At the IT office of my uni they did a physical test and said everything was functioning properly...

Also this problem only just happened when reformatting and trying to reinstall system software. I have none of the original OS for this system.

Another thing when I type in IPCONFIG in command prompt with the internet hardwired I get only zeroes under the wireless info.

Hope this helps

Just a double check, do you use Windows Zero config (built in wireless "manager") and have you updated the OS?

If windows zero is the built in default then yes, I suppose. I go from the network places through the windows wireless program (never been sure it had a name...)

My windows is fully up to date as of yesterday and still there is no difference.

Thanks for taking the time to reply!

Have you tried using Intel's wireless utility which is a part of the more recent driver packages from Lenovo?
