right ctrl key and blank screen when supply power ON/OFF

hello everyone,

i jsut got a thinkpad x220 and i am having following problems Could anyone please help me:

1. Right Ctrl (one besides arrow keys) key doesnt function.
2. the screen goes blank for few seconds when the main supply power either goes OFF or ON ( both of the times)

is this some setting based defects or my x220 is a defective one?
