760EL, Retreive large application

#1 Post by 8valve » Sun Sep 23, 2012 8:49 pm

I have a old Thinkpad 760EL that I have not used for quite a few years. I have one software application on the old Thinkpad, that I now need for a coming job. I must copy it from the 760EL to my Desktop PC.

The Application is 12 mb in size.

Here is the problem;
1. The 760EL only has a read only CD. I can not burn a CD with the applictaion.

2. There is no USB port to use a memory stick

3. I tried emailing it to myself, but my ISP server will not allow a file that large

4. I tried Zipping the application, but that only reduces the size to just a little under 11 mb. Still to large for my ISP server to accept. I do not know what is the max size the ISP server will allow.

5. I can't move the 760EL CD player to another PC as it has a special 760EL plug

So, my question, how can I get a copy of the 12mb application off the 760EL

Thanks
Paul

I guess you then have connected the 760EL to internet. I'd recommend to try a service like Dropbox, Gdrive or alike.

A pcmcia CF adapter. Even Windows 95 will see it as a standard IDE hard drive. Then you can use a usb CF adapter with the desktop.

Yes. Remove the CD and insert the floppy drive

You could also try a file splitter such as HJSplit: http://www.hjsplit.org/windows/

:?:

Me was thinking that if you tried to email it, this will mean you have an internet connection. You can then store it somewhere on the cloud and download it from your target computer. No need to buy extra hardware for that...

Its easier for me to buy the PCMICA card. I live very remote in the mts. My internet connection is dial up and I connect at 24.4K. Dont laugh, 24.4K. And the guy further down the mountain only connects at 14.4.

Ouch! That explains everything...

If it were me, I would pull the HDD out and put it into a USB enclosure.

Just curious: what's the cost of dial-up access? Also, do you have cell phone reception?

9.95 month from ATT....but there is a reason I get it so cheap.
No cell coverage, Many places in the Mts is a RF Black Hole.
Besides the slow connection speed.....lets never forget frequent disconnects LOL. There is still 1932 Lead cable with paper insulation on the Mt. Verizon will only replace sections that come down in serious winter storms. Believe it or not, you do get used to slow speed. If I need high speed I go to the Library in the Settlement.
