Use t41 monitor as a second desktop monitor.

#1 Post by Nubrig » Mon Sep 24, 2012 8:52 pm

So I have a 'broken' t41 which I don't care on repairing any more after damaging it (it doesn't matter how) but the screen works and I was wondering if and how it's possible to use it as a second monitor for my desktop system. Anyone done something similar?

Not in the way that you are thinking.

You can build (just about literally) a desktop LCD display using an old
laptop panel, but it may cost more than a new desktop LCD display bought
in a store, and it will be awkward and ugly.

Here is how it's done: http://www.mp3car.com/the-faq-emporium/ ... creen.html
Collection = T500 - R400 - X300 - X200 - T61 (14" WXGA+) - T61 (14.1" SXGA+) - T60 (15" SXGA+) - X40 - T43p - T43 - T42p - A30P - 600E

So I guess experimenting with this doesn't have a chance of success?

I wouldn't say no chance of success...especially if it's a project you're interested in pursuing as a experimental hobby.
It just wouldn't be worth the time and expense to me.

I don't mind spending time and money especially if it's the price shown in the link I posted. If the project succeeds I'll relish the satisfaction and feeling of achievement! It doesn't need to look good, it just needs to work, since it's the first time I'll be doing something like this. Thanks for the precious info!

With the eBay kit you linked, you actually have a great chance of success if you let the seller know the exact part number of the LCD panel and they confirm it will work.
X60 tablet 6363-P3U, 3GB ram, 128GB SanDisk Extreme SSD, SXGA+ screen, Intel 6300
T61 Frankenpad in 15 inch T60 body, UXGA LED-lit AFFS LCD, T9300, 6GB RAM, NVidia NVS140m, Intel 6205, 128GB Crucial M4 SSD, 1TB HGST HDD + eBay caddy in Ultrabay
701c butterfly, 75MHz 486DX4, 40MB ram, 1GB CF card

I asked for instructions and I got a reply:
"Yes, we can give you the instruction for simple connecting for this kit. However, we have connected most of the connection, and it will be easy plug and play. Please don't worry. We only be able to make it as the simple desktop monitor, if you want to do it as the example, you will need to try it out yourself, as we don't know how they do that. Hope for your understanding."
So it seems really possible!
