keyboard connector on motherboard

#1 Post by waterloo » Tue Sep 25, 2012 1:45 am

I broke it ><
The connector on the motherboard, the one nearest to the LCD fell off. If I put the broken part back into place and apply pressure the keyboard works fine.

It looks like I just need to solder two points and they don't look too small....

I have nothing fancy :(... Can I do this?

Thanks

What laptop are you talking about?
On a T60, the nearest connector to the LCD is for the modem, which is rarely used any more these days...

I chipped the keyboard connector on the side closet to the monitor

So now to use the laptop I need to physically hold and apply some pressure to the chipped keyboard connector part

Tried to take a picture - camera sucks so it isn't working.

Basically, the keyboard connector on the motherboard chipped  .

Found my solder tip isn't thin enough........ Time to try glue?

I don't think you've got anything to lose at this point in the game, so why not...

By keyboard connector, are you talking about a USB port?

I think the keyword missing is ribbon cable. I fight that dang little connector everytime I put the keyboard back on, and I always worry about getting the alignment wrong and busting something...now I'll be extra careful. In your case I might be inclined to try some epoxy, but then it becomes a permanent attachment. Would hot glue be strong enough? At least you might then stand a chance of local heat for removal.
