T420i Quad-Core?

#1 Post by Python.p » Tue Sep 25, 2012 8:36 am

Hi folks,

I need more performance for MatLab computing, so i thinking about CPU upgrade.

What i know is that a lot of i5 and i7 CPU has 35W TDP, so cooling I have not seen as a problem ( if I´m wrong, please correct me ;) )

The question is? which CPU will work on QM67 chipset in T420i :? QuadCore is not nessery everthing will be better then i3-2310m

If there are no chance to switch CPU, I have must to sell my lovely notebook.

Thank´s for reply

T420i is designed to remove 35W of heat. All quad core mobile i7 chips require 45W of heat to be removed. The i7 processors that have TDP of 35W are dual core designs, such as the i7-2640m.

For quad core, perhaps a T520 or W520 may be a better fit.

Anyone ever tried a i7-2630QM or i7-2860QM in a T420?

That´s what i think... if i7-2640m will work that would be very nice

and i think i7 QC don´t have IGP on CPU ? or it is some type of HOAX what i find ;)

The mobile quad core Sandy Bridge Core i7 does support IGP, so I would call hoax on that one. That is for the entire line, from the first i7-2630QM to the top of the line i7-2960XM.

I am going to let you in on a secret. Check out this website: http://ark.intel.com/ This site lets you compare desktop and mobile versions of Intel processors and chipsets.
