CPU Speed question

#1 Post by borgit » Tue Apr 26, 2005 1:44 pm

Hi, i have a t42p, and a very weird thing happens with my cpu frequency. I set my power settings on maximum battery life, so that the cpu speed throttles down to 600mhz. All is fine, until i go to standby mode. As soon as i come back from standby mode, the speed goes up to 2000hz (my full speed). To change it back, i have to go and reapply the power settings. Does anyone else experience this problem/know how to fix? Also, i tried this with both IBM's power utility and without, the only thing left is to format my IBM preinstalled Windows XP and try from sratch, but i think there must be an easier way. Thanks for any info.

I have experienced intermittently on my T40 (off the top of my head, I'd say it happens about 10% of the time after turning the unit on from standby or hibernate). Usually, my power settings are preserved, but sometimes I notice that my CPU is locked at 1.30 GHz and I have to use battery maximiser to set it back to adaptive mode.

I don't know what causes it, but I suspect it is a software bug.

Yes, same problem here

All the settings seem to be fine after resumption from standby or hibernate, but the cpu speed is locked at the highest setting. This i confirm with CPU-Z which shows a live cpu reading. In order to get back to 600mhz or adaptive mode, i have to use battery maximiser to set it manually. This doesn't happen upon reboots, only on standby and hibernate. Also, the problem seems to be with Wiindows, as i tried this without IBM's power management driver and without their battery maximser and it still occurs. Any other suggestions?
