a few months ago I have installed an SSD. It's made by a Korean company, and is a 1.8inch, PATA(IDE) SSD. Quite unusual for an SSD that's released in 2012.
It's because it's actually made specifically for X40/41. It does work in other models, though.
I saw some dramatic improvements in terms of performance and I wanted to show off.
But I didn't have the tools for it. Now that I have equipments to take photos and videos, I am uploading it

It came in a very simple box. No manual, nothing. I don't think it really matters because it's meant for people who already know what they want to do with this thing.

This is how it looks like. Again, very simple packaging.
When held with hand, it was noticably lighter than stock Hitachi HDD, though I don't think it will contribute so much to the overall weight of the laptop.

At the back, you have that classic jumper dialogue
So, here comes the numbers

This is the benchmark from the manufacturer. It's in it's clean state, so it won't work this fast when you are using it with OS installed as a primary boot disk.

This is my benchmark result. My X41T is now running a clean version of Windows 7 Professional. I use windows 7 because of native tablet functions provided by Windows 7, but it was virtually unusable with HDD. Now with SSD, it's actually as fast as many modern laptops with HDDs. IE 9, MS Word, OneNote... they all come up as if they were waiting before I clicked on them.
No major modification had been done to the OS: just some routine SSD optimization... Superfetch off, hibernation off(for more disk space), page file off(for the same reason). I did install a modded BIOS to bypass Error 2010.

Now, this is the Hitachi 1.8" IDE HDD 4200RPM.... The numbers...they're just....just not right....

And WEI for the X41T.
My X41T has P M 1.6GHz(Dothan), and 2.5GB physical RAM(2.0GB usable). Disk drive point scores 5.9. I suspect it's the best you can get with PATA interface...
To see exactly how faster it is... just check out the vids. Really, it's Gangnam Style XD
