Ati FireGL V5250 - Win7 x64 issue

#1 Post by Rossano » Thu Sep 27, 2012 6:19 pm

Hi all,

I've just installed on my T60p 2007-EM7 Windows 7 64bit and downloaded native driver for Ati FireGL V5250 from catalog.update.microsoft.com. Everything works fine until I run some of my graphic software - for example fullscreen rendering or Worms Reloaded game. After running that game, the screen starts flickering = game is totally unplayable. When I run rendering tests in OpenGL Extensions Viewer, the problem is identical - there is a rotating cube "OpenGL" and... screen is flickering. Disaster for eyes generally.

When I run the same test on the same T60p, just on Win7 32bit, so there is no problem. These tests run smoothly. (Notice: I downloaded drivers for V5250 for Win7 32bit from the same place as above - catalog.update...)

As you can see, there is an issue likely with the driver for V5250. My actual version I'm using is 8.561.0.0. I know of no newer version of drivers. Therefore I'm in a trap. How can I solve it? ...Or, is there any solution for that problem? I completely moved to x64 one week ago, although the T60p can "holds" only 3GB of RAM. :(

Thanks for any advice.

EDIT: Graphic card passed rendering tests in newest OpenGL Extensions Viewer v4.0.8 in x64! (Failed in OpenGL EV v2.0.).

I'm running the same driver version, and all is well, but I'm not doing demanding graphics.

I think bmwman91 posted some info on updating with modded ATI drivers for improved performance. I plan to try it, but at the moment I'm good.

SOLVED! SUCCESS! BKthink, thank you very much for your valuable post, you're my saviour. :D Special thanks to bmwman91 - his guide works perfectly.

Now I'm running ATI drivers v8.593.100.0, date 10.2.2010, and everything works fine and smoothly. No more flickering screen. In addition, I can see some improvement in graphic software (better FPS etc.). There were just some problems detected in dock-DVI <-> external monitor - occasionally I use that scheme, so I'll see that in future...

I know this is an old thread but found it hoping to install this newer driver. I was able to get the modded driver working after a few tries.

I couple things I learned. When uninstalling the driver in Device Manager remember to check the delete box else it keeps trying to re-install the old driver. Also after modding the driver run the Set Up file in the package to install the modded driver.

Like others have said it is really great to have this forum as a resource.
