Display Problem
Display Problem
Dear All,
I got a problem with my T60 display. The display on the screen split into two sides, up side and down side. Also the resolution decrease, to 1024x768 (previously 1400x1050). It also become a "widescreen", so the right side of display (close, maximize button, etc) dissapear. I tried to connect to external monitor, an old CRT monitor, the display was normal, but still 1024x768 (some say that it depends on the monitor resolution)
I checked it up to IBM service Center in town, the IBM- man diagnosed it was LCD problem, so it need to be replaced, NOT repaired. The surprising thing was the price of the part (LCD) he said was USD 1,100. Much more expensive than the value of my T60. In my country (Indonesia), a good condition T60 priced around IDR 2,5mio (USD 250). With USD 1,100 i can get brand new Thinkpad with latest spec. So the price of original part, USD 1,100 does not make sense to me. I search on google, lcd price around USD 100, i don't whether they offer the original part or the compatible one.
I plan to find second opinion to unauthorized service center. Hopefully i don't need to replace the LCD.
Any suggestion, what i should do?
Replace with original part or compatible?
or another option?
regards,
Nurwachid

Re: Display Problem
mine is the 14" T60, not the 15 inch one. Besides, you're too far for me, on the other side of the earth.-), too risky.
But thank you anyway

Re: Display Problem
Could you post the 7-character model number of that T60?

The risk is minimal, we all ship parts all over the world this way, and even if something did go wrong, that's what insurance is for.

I've sold several ThinkPads to customers in Indonesia, never had a problem.

Re: Display Problem
That's the one.
Based 2007-GEA: T5600(1.83GHz), 1GB RAM, 80GB 5400rpm HD, 14.1in 1400x1050 LCD, 64MB ATI Radeon X1300, CDRW/DVDRW, Intel 802.11abg wireless, Bluetooth, Modem, 1Gb Ether, UltraNav, Sec Chip, FPR, 6c Li-Ion, DOS license
You need a genuine Lenovo-issued LCD with a FRU number.
Good luck.

Re: Display Problem
Be careful, it's really easy to print a sticker with an FRU number and slap it on the back of a non-genuine screen. There are many such knock-offs being sold online, usually out of china. It's hard to say what their source is but I suspect they get a generic screen made by the same manufacturer, probably screens that didn't pass quaility control standards and they flash the lenovo firmware and add the sticker. If they are using a 1st quality screen then this isn't much of a problem but I avoid them because it would cost a small fortune to return one if I wasn't happy with it.ajkula66 wrote: You need a genuine Lenovo-issued LCD with a FRU number.

Re: Display Problem
thanks all for suggestions.
but it seems that the LCD is not a problem. Few days ago, by accident, I hit the body around Thinkvantage button a little hard. Surprisingly, the display back to normal again. few days later the display split again and i hit the body again. You know it work! Although for a while.
So I suspect the problem is the cable connection, but i haven't checked it yet.
