Lid not being detected as closed

#1 Post by fmcsimmons » Sat Sep 29, 2012 1:21 pm

So I received my T430 back from EasyServe (the base cover was bent causing the machine to wobble when I typed). I was impressed with how quick and easy the process was and they solved that issue completely. Now I have a new issue in where the lid isn't being detected as closed. The backlight stays on and the machine won't sleep/shutdown/hibernate whatever the software settings are. I've tried it with the Lenovo image installed on the HDD and with a fresh install of Windows. With Power Manager and without, no dice either way. My guess is that they screwed up something while taking my machine apart or reassembling it. My question is, how does the lid detect that it is closed and how could they have screwed that up?

I believe with the newer systems the lid position is detected by a magnet. Either the magnet fell out or is not positioned correctly or the sensor is not operating properly. I looked through the T430 Hardware Maintenance Manual but could not find any mention of it.
