T60p output to DVI monitor

#1 Post by Asudef » Tue Oct 02, 2012 11:58 pm

I got a DVI-D (dual link) monitor and want to output to it from my T60p (w/o dock) but can't find a definitive answer whether or not its possible.

The monitor has the connector second from bottom here http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/c ... es.svg.png

I found this connector but a reviewer says it will only go downstream and not from VGA to DVI

Am I SOL or is it possible? I've also read other anecdotal advice saying it works but is limited to VGA quality which I'm ok with. Do I need a DVI-I (Dual link) for it to work?

In your case - ir is not possible.

Your monitor (like 99+% of monitors) has a DVI-D connector, so it can only receive a digital signal over DVI. A monitor with a DVI-I connector would be able to receive analog.

You need either a VGA to DVI converter (not adapter), or a docking station. Probably better to get the dock (Advanced Mini-Dock). You can get them dirt cheap nowadays, often on the marketplace here.
