Installing Keyboard

#1 Post by Rex » Wed Oct 03, 2012 3:51 am

Hi there,

Although I have been a member of this forum due to owning a couple T20 laptops, my question is slightly removed from the T series.

Because I like the Thinkpad keyboard so much, I have a UltraNav keyboard (02R0403) for my desktop. Until recently, the touchpad, red button and left/right buttons all worked. I also use a regular mouse and tablet, plugged into the keyboard. Then I upgraded my XP sp2 to sp3 and I have lost the touchpad / red button / left/right click usage. I have downloaded what I think it the relevant driver form the Lenovo site but I always get a message the a newer driver is installed and that I must remove it from 'Add/Remove Programs.' Of course, it is not there.

The keyboard works fine as a keyboard, as do the desktop mouse and tablet, just the touchpad and red button not working.

I have removed the current keyboard driver from Device Manager, but still the same message when trying to install my IBM keyboard.

What next? Be really grateful for any advice,

Many thanks

Did you get your Ultranav driver from here? http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/detail. ... MIGR-66898
Seems you also need a separate Trackpoint driver.

Thanks for the link, that's a good one. I did not get the driver from there, but it was from Lenovo with a different number. The link you gave has 32 and 64 for all Win OS. The driver I have is only for XP and 2000.

However, when I run the file, I always get this Synaptics message, either the previous one saying that I have to remove the program from Add/Remove (it's not there) or this new one saying the Synaptics cannot be found.

I have manually deleted the folder from Program Files but I imagine that there are some reg entries scattered around. Wondering about backing up the reg and manually removing them?

Seemed to have cured the problem. Manually deleted Synaptics folder from Program Files, backed up the reg then manually searched and deleted all folders and entries relating to Synaptics.

Ran the UltraNav software and all appears to be running now.
