t42 malfunctioning fan?

i had a question regarding the t42 fan. my thinkpad has been running kinda of hot and iwhen i put my hand near the vent 've noticed that the lower portion of the heat vent does not seem to blow air out or atleast not as strong as the upper half of the vent (the side closest to the headphone jacks). is this normal?

yes, this is normal. One side is sucking in air, and the other blowing it out. :roll:
