T60 for parts?

#1 Post by schen » Sat Oct 06, 2012 12:04 pm

I don't have a lot of T6x experience, so I'm throwing this out there to see what thoughts are on it. I picked up a T60 (2007-5DU) for parts this morning. The price was good enough that just the RAM in it, and power adapter long with other stuff thrown in are worth it, so I don't have money, sentiment or anything else tied up in this thing.

What it gives is the 2 short beep POST error, giving the ThinkPad splash screen, then going right off immediately after. Right now, I'm assuming that the MB has an issue somewhere. Any other thoughts?

Straight up "for parts" machine, or worth resurrecting if I get a MB and screen (cracked) at a good price? I don't need anything else. I have drives, memory, batteries, etc. Obviously, we don't "need" it!

I'd pull everything you can out of it, then reseat the cpu and install some good (tested) ram and see if you can get it to boot to bios. If not, the board is probably not worth fixing since T60 boards are pretty cheap. I'm not sure what T60 model you have since the number you posted isn't listed on lenovo's database. Perhaps you transposed a number, or it's very possible the database is incomplete.

If you do need a board, a good used one would normally run 50-100 usd depending on the model. Hopefully you'll find it was just a bad component, but there isn't much you can't fix cheaply on one of these. As for your screen, if you let me know the size I can see what I have available. For systemboards, I have some high-end ones, for others I'd recommend george (ajkula66), I believe he has a few.

You can go either way if you feel like dealing with me again... :D

a) I've got a bunch of T60/p boards that could be negotiated for a decent price, especially for an old trade partner like yourself. I'm fairly certain that I could come up with a screen as well, and if you want a brand new one, RealBlackStuff still has a few left.

b) If you don't feel like tinkering with the particular machine, building a FrankenPad or what have you, I'm *always* interested in 15" T60 shells in decent shape...

Drop me a PM if you're up for any of the above...
