T430s screen (HD+) is not as good as a two-year old FHD

#1 Post by ircfas133 » Sun Oct 07, 2012 4:32 pm

I had FHD on T510 and it is great. But once I had my T430s with HD+ screen, I can see why FHD costs additional 200 bucks. The view angle in T430s HD+ screen is so bad, that I have to adjust screen every time I move. Why cannot lenovo get a nice screen like those on Apple?

Call and complain. You can also return the laptop if you are within your return period. Unless folks do that in numbers or large corporate buyers demand better quality screens, the product isn't going to change unfortunately.

Return it and get the X1 Carbon, which has a much nicer 14" HD+ screen than the T430s. It's also much lighter.

All 14" models have typical Lenovo zero-contrast displays. The X1 Carbon is a bit better but nothing special, still TN panel.

Judging by their numbers, the X1 Carbon display is a lot better. The W510 display is also a TN panel, after all.
Current: X220 4291-4BG, T410 2537-R46, T60 1952-F76, T60 2007-QPG, T42 2373-F7G
Collectibles: T430s (IPS FHD + Classic Keyboard), X32 (IPS Screen)
Retired: X61 7673-V2V, A31p w/ Ultrabay Numpad
Past: Z61t 9440-A23, T60 2623-D3U, X32 2884-M5U

Yes, that's where my comment "better but nothing special" applies.

BTW it is funny that even low-end Edge E135 model has display with slightly better contrast ratio than T430s

And you can equip a Thinkpad Edge E430 with an Intel Core i7-3612QM quad core processor - but not an upgraded display, wireless card, graphics chipset, etc.

While you can configure the Thinkpad T430 with all of those things EXCEPT the Core i7-3612QM - makes no sense to me.

I have a T430s and an X1 Carbon. No question that the display on the X1 Carbon is superior. It is only a TN display, but a very good one. Its comparable in quality to the MacBook Air. The T430s is a great laptop, but it is hampered by Lenovo's choice to cheap out on the display.

Yea don't do this. I had the X1, it is brighter, but good lord the screendoor affect is horrible, just horrible. The t430s hd+ is way better in my opinion. A little dimmer but no screen door.

Disagree. I just got the t430s so the fru might be different on my hd+ display, but this is better than the x1 in my opinion. The screendoor effect is horrific on the x1. So much so that the fact it is brighter doesn't do anything for me.

The X1 and the X1 Carbon are totally different models.

Someone over at the German ThinkPad Forum planted the X1C Display into his T420s. Just so you know it can be done.

It's not the greatest screen in the world, but where it will run head and shoulders above Apple is outside. It's way brighter and not shiny.

The T430s is pretty much designed for doing straight up corporate work -- MS Office type stuff. It's not really intended for graphic artists or web designers.

I really don't find the HD+ screen bad at all. No worse than any other midrange PC. The non "+" screen is not pleasant to look at, but I would have a hard time complaining too too hard about the HD+ one. I mean, come on, you can get a pretty well equipped T430s for well under $1K.

Nice! Was in complicated? Or just a case of fitting a different LCD?

Very cool and good to know. The X1 Carbon LCD is definitely quite nice and noticeably better than the T420s displays.
