Which Intel Rapid Storage Technology to use?
Which Intel Rapid Storage Technology to use?
I am installing a SSD drive in my T61p and I will also install 64 bit Windows 7 from a new bought disk.
I went to Lenovo's site and downloaded all the drivers I think I may need.
But do I also need to download some version of an Intel Rapid Storage Technology driver?
I can't figure out which one to get.
I will put all the Lenovo drivers and the Intel Rapid Storage Tech driver on a USB device and have it ready so when I install Windows 7 I can have access to them as needed.
I have already done the MIddleton BIOS update.
All advice, warnings gladly accepted.
Thanks.

Re: Which Intel Rapid Storage Technology to use?
well, i just plug in the ssd into primary hard drive, activate the AHCI mode in BIOS, set the start up boot from win7 dvd and let the installer do its job, and you're on your way
I don't use the Intel Rapid Storage Technology driver from Microsoft's site, both of my ssd are working just fine in my old T61

Hello world.
Re: Which Intel Rapid Storage Technology to use?
Does the driver provided by Windows 7 support TRIM?
Once the driver in Windows 7 is installed is it possible to remove it and replace it with the Intel Rapid Storage driver?
And I still have the same question, where do I find the Intel driver and which one do I need for the t61p?

I read thru it. Thanks.
I remain confused and I am nervous about installing anything using a command line, although I have done that in the past.
I am hoping someone can point me to the exact RST file I need to download and install.
I tried an 11.something RST driver today but my machine is apparently not compatible with it, too old. It is a t61p 6457-AK7)

You don't need any specific driver for the SATA controller. Windows 7's own driver works just fine. I'm pretty sure that it does support TRIM, too.

Re: Which Intel Rapid Storage Technology to use?
Well, a number of poster here and elsewhere say the RST drivers are noticeably faster. I do video work and speed is important. A 25% increase in speed means I can cut an hour of rendering or moving files and other tasks down to 45 minutes.
How can I determine if W7 supports TRIM? I have read reputable things both ways. And those who say it does say that it has to be tweaked to do it.
