IBM-Thinkpad R51 2887 HDD issue

#1 Post by tridibRS » Sat Oct 13, 2012 7:41 am

Hi folks

am calling from Assam/ India. (any1 from this region willing to help me, or be in general contact, please mail me at tridib_rs[at]rediffmail.com)

I have a IBM-Thinkpad R51 2887 lappy. and the HDD went bust a few days ago. the techie says its physically busted, so no point in sending it to the medics!!!
am not getting replacement for the same. i mean no IDE / PATA stuff available. not even used ones :(

can i adapt a SATA 2.5/9.5 HDD. i mean what adaptor to be used, and how - please advise me, O Gurus.
i presume that a SATA cannot be pushed in directly, and voila...

regards,

Welcome to the forum!

No way a SATA drive will work in the R51 drive bay. Might, might, get one to work in the UltraBay, by replacing your optical drive with a SATA adapter. But, best thing to do is get a PATA drive...or a newer laptop. If there are no PATA drives available locally, they can still be had online even though they are a bit more pricey than SATA models.

In his part of the world, all they know about is tea, never heard of Newegg in India.
