WTB: 760XD or XL/ED/E

#1 Post by Auzner » Fri Oct 26, 2012 11:49 pm

My expectation is about $30 per unit shipped, but please make offers. I assume most of the ones still around have hardware missing, hardware failures, chips, dents, broken pieces, polished keyboards, peelings, cracked LCDs, dead pixels, dead backlights, dead batteries, mechanical drive problems, etc. If that is not in the ballpark let me know and we can make a deal of some kind. The more I can get, the more likely I can combine them to form a pristine 760XD. I expect a lot of work on my end to get what I want, so offer me all of the broken ones. Please describe what you have and provide pictures if there's severe damage.

I'm looking for the following models:
9546-U9E = 760XD
9546-U9A = 760ED
9546-U3A = 760ED

Right now I've got plenty of E's for parts. I mainly need just hard drives and caddies.
9546-U9B = 760E
9547-U9C = 760XL
9547-U9K = 760XL
9547-U4H = 760EL

All other models I might be able to use for parts, but am not specifically searching for any others until I understand the part compatibilities. For now I'm only trying to collect a close family of models. I haven't had the time to fully study the FRU interchangeability in IBM Mobile Systems Hardware Maintenance Manual Volume 3: ThinkPad Computers.

I can be contacted at auzner@gmail.com

Thank you! I will be documenting my work and doing a write up for this. When and were that goes I don't know, but I look forward to this project and could use some parts!

I have a complete 9546-U9E. It is in "B" condition with quite a few scratches on the top and shiny corners, but the keyboard is OK and it generally works. The screen is nice. The only issue I have had with it is when I load Windows 95 or Windows 98 it will not recognize and mount the CD drive. I get exclamation points for the IDE controller in device manager. However, the CD drive works in DOS and I can load Windows from the CD drive. Mwave functions great. I have a 2.1 gig hard drive for it with either Win95 or Win98 and Mwave loaded. I do not have the 760 caddy but I do have the hard drive connector. I have everything for it including a battery that works to some extent, although I am reluctant to give that up. Send me a PM and we can discuss if you are interested. I frankly prefer to exchange for vintage parts rather than cash but am open to suggestions.
