T400 faster then T410

#1 Post by richyboypalm » Fri Oct 19, 2012 3:03 am

I currently have a T400, only got it a few weeks ago to replace my T60, I have found it quicker then the T60, but I,m still looking for more speed, It has the P8700 CPU, 8GB RAM, 128GB SSD, X1300MHD Graphics.

I was thinking on a CPU upgrade to the T9900 or pick up a T410 ...

I was looking at going with the T410 but ... I have looked on Passmark CPU list and found the T9900 faster then the i7-620M.
Can this be correct ??? and/or can the T410 have a larger CPU then the i7-620M?

Thanks

It's possible, even though PassMark is merely a collection of sampling points of a specific benchmark. It is never 100% accurate.

T9900 is probably only found in a selection of very high-end systems, and other system components are likely to affect the score.

On NotebookCheck Mobile CPU Benchmarks you will find that most scores actually favor the i7-620M.

In any case, getting the T410 for just the CPU upgrade, or upgrading the CPU to the T9900 is probably a waste of money, as the CPU is rarely the bottleneck.

There are many other reasons to go for a T410. It has many advantages over the T400 in my book (and a couple of disadvantages as well). I wouldn't consider the CPU speed over T400 to be a meaningful factor, or a factor at all...
