No SATA option in BIOS on Z60t

#1 Post by Tejstar » Fri Oct 19, 2012 3:11 am

I wonder if someone can help. I want to install a SSD on my Thinkpad Z60T, therefore I need to be able to switch it into AHCI mode.

However, there is no 'Serial-ATA' option in the BIOS. It should be under Config, but SATA configuration isn't listed. I'm running the latest BIOS for the laptop (1.24). Does anyone have any ideas?

Your Z60t is a sister-product [but with native SATA] of the T43, NOT the T60.
Compare the specs of T43/Z60t/T60 and you'll see it.
These Z60t/T43 models do not have a SATA-setting in the BIOS.
For installing XP (not recommended on an SSD), you'll need a USB stick or floppy with the appropriate SATA driver.
For Vista/W7 the SATA driver is built into the OS.

Many thanks for your help RealBlackStuff. I did realise after I posted this that maybe the BIOS option wasn't supported, but wasn't sure. Thanks for clearing that up.

I'll be using Windows 7 and will just run the SSD in IDE mode - it can't do any harm and TRIM will still run. Should be better than the 5,400RPM HDD anyway! :)
