T61 using ext. display but awakens using laptop screen
T61 using ext. display but awakens using laptop screen
I have my Windows 7 64 bit T61 connected by VGA to a 23" display, I switch to the external monitor from the laptop screen, choose the native res of the ext display, 1920x1080, fine. I put the machine in suspend but when awakened it's using the laptop's display again. I can't see a way out of this. What to do?

Re: T61 using ext. display but awakens using laptop screen
Hello,
What works for me with my T60p running W7 in a docking station connected to an external display via DVI is to keep the laptop closed and use the buttons on the docking station to put the unit to sleep or turn on or off. This keeps the native display resolution correct. As soon as I open the laptop it does lose my display resolution settings. Not sure that helps you...

Re: T61 using ext. display but awakens using laptop screen
I was having no problem when using my T60 running XP Professional. I need to use the Windows 7 machine right now, and can't get the external display to be the default coming out of suspend. It's quite nutty. I've looked, clicked, prodded, nothing is changing this behavior. I don't know who to blame, Lenovo or Microsoft, but I'm inclined to think it's Lenovo. I'm sure the setting is there but I can't find it ATM.
Wish I did have a docking station, it would be nicer to run the display off DVI. I think they are pricey... last time I looked.

Equally annoying as having to change my output display to the external monitor, I then have to change its resolution from that on the notebook's display to that of the external display.
Puleaze.

Re: T61 using ext. display but awakens using laptop screen
Not sure there really is a solution but this works for me:
I can replicate your problem with an x301 running Win 7.
But I have always used WOL so the lid stays closed and the LCD off while the TV is being detected, so I've never had the issue.
But, like you, if I wake by opening the laptop lid I don’t get the 1920x1080 resolution on the TV.
My notes from a few years ago say this:
The key is changing: Control Panel > Display > Adjust Resolution > Multiple Displays
To: Show Desktop only on 2 (or whichever is detected as the TV)
But I doubt it will affect your wake-up issue.

Re: T61 using ext. display but awakens using laptop screen
You can pick up a docking station for $15-20 on Ebay or put a LF note in the Forum Marketplace. The resolution with the DVI output is quite superior to VGA. You can then run one or both displays duplicating or extending them without losing resolution info.

If XP worked and W7 does not, how can you blame Lenovo?Muse wrote:I was having no problem when using my T60 running XP Professional. I need to use the Windows 7 machine .....I don't know who to blame, Lenovo or Microsoft, but I'm inclined to think it's Lenovo.
The machine stayed the same, you only changed OS!
And nowadays almost every monitor comes with DVI, rather than the old VGA.

OK, yeah, I suppose I can blame Microsoft, for what it's worth. However, the machines are not the same. The XP machine is a T60, the Windows 7 64 bit machine is a T61.RealBlackStuff wrote: If XP worked and W7 does not, how can you blame Lenovo?

This monitor has HDMI, DVI and VGA. I guess I'll shop for a docking station. Thanks all for the help.
