unknown device

#1 Post by userme » Wed Apr 27, 2005 5:58 pm

I have an IBM thinkpad t30. I had to reformate my hard drive because it was acting wired on me. I reinstalled Windows Xp and all the drivers but I still have the unknown device listed under device manager. Right clicking the unknown device and go to properties, it says " microsoft acpi-complaint Embedded controller". I have upgraded the bios to 2.08 and the embedded controller to 1.05. Any ideals what the unknown device is? Any advice is greatly appreciated. THANKS!!!

Try uninstalling it and see if it comes back. I don't recall having this but I do recall something that was "left over" when uninstalled it went away and never reappeared.

Could try to let Windows Update look for a driver.

Userme,

It's probably the ACPI Power management driver.

Rule 1:

Download whatever you want from Windows Update, but never ever download and install any driver from that site! Drivers supplied through Windows Update are either old and obsolete or are simply the wrong version of driver for your hardware.
