usb problem

#1 Post by halfcard1 » Mon Oct 22, 2012 4:17 pm

T61 - windows 7 32bit

i cloned old hard drive onto new samsung 830 SSD, not sure if that is related.

now the T61 does not show any connected USB device that i have tried - mouse, SSD backup drive etc.

the devices light up and i hear a sound from the T61 when plugging them in - but they do not appear in disk manager or my computer, and do not run on any of the 3 USB's

i have already tried uninstalling the USB drivers and rebooting. i also got latest chipset software.

it is not the devices because they work fine on another computer

update: i tested with the old hard drive, and USB does work. so it must be related to the clone SSD drive.

i had used 'copy disk' from 'minitool partition wizard'.

formatted SSD and this time cloned my other pc (which is also a win 7 32 bit). result: i now have win 64 bit that sees all 4mb ram! weird.

still no usb function though.

The only thing that I'm going to say, at the risk of becoming boringly predictable, is that cloning an image from a rotational drive to a SSD is not a good idea.

Fresh install is the way to go in my experience.
