Windows 8 and X220 Bluetooth

#1 Post by taob » Sun Oct 28, 2012 6:58 pm

Anyone have luck getting Windows 8 to enable and use Bluetooth on the X220? It worked fine under Windows 7 (able to pair with my PS3 BT remote control). The green BT icon status LED isn't lit up (the wifi one is), even though it is enabled in the BIOS. Fn+F5 no longer works to enable the radio (I only turn it on when I need it), and it does not look like the full Thinkvantage suite of software has been ported to Windows 8 yet. Any ideas on what I need to do to enable BT?

Well, apparently it was because I had disabled the BT radio while in Windows 7, and the hardware somehow remembers that (overriding even the BIOS setting). Since Lenovo has not yet released the Windows 8 version of Hotkey Integration, I installed the Windows 7 version in compatibility mode, and now Fn+F5 seems to work again. I was able to turn on the BT radio, and immediately begin using it.

Had the same problem. I have installed this driver and bluetooth 3.0 on W8 works:

taob, how did you get your Fn+F5 working for bluetooth?

I install the Hotekey Integration using your link. Fn+F5 bring up Windows 8 Wireless setting. It turns on/off Wireless (wifi). No way to select bluetooth.

You need to install Hotkey Features version 3.81 or older for Fn + F5 to have full functionality on the X220 in Windows 8.

It is available from a table on the following page (scroll down).

Thanks for your reply. I installed version 3.81 as what you mentioned. It works! Now I can toggle on/off easily for my bluetooth. Thank you very much.

Sorry to bump such an old thread, but I was going crazy trying to figure out why bluetooth wouldn't show up anywhere on the system no matter what I did, but installing the Hotkey 3.81 software worked like a charm. Thank you so much!
