Bill
If it comes down to building one for yourself, let me know. I have pieces parts galore. No screens of any flavors though. Backs, fronts, cables, hinges, antennas and inverters yes, screens no.

Would a T23 with SXGA+ do?
Almost as sturdy as the T30!

Hi Bill.

I've got an IBM refurb T30 SXGA screen, still in the box with the IBM seal intact. Bought 2 of them some years back, and used one for a customer repair. It came out of the box looking brand new, and I have no doubt the second one would be in the same condition. Sorry, no T30's to put it in though!.

Let me know if you require it.

Regards.

i was seeking a T30 since these are what the OBDII reader for mercedes calls for..
there is a hard drive that is plugged into a T30 and one can do lots of diagnostics..

i'm waiting a bit to learn if i really want to get that deep into tools for car maintenance when there seem to be some really low cost options for reading OBDII codes and even resetting the check engine light if needed..

so, for now, i'll wait a bit unless a really great deal pops up.. :)

HI Bill
I have used a boatload of scanners in the last 25 years, stay away from the Actron Brand
http://www.actron.com/product_category.php?id=249
Possibly the slowest scanners on the face of the Earth. They work fine, but slooooow.

Oh it's the Pentium 4-M which is really the CPU which should not have been.

Bill,

I have a T30 that's sitting in a drawer.
I don't know if it has the screen your looking for.
It has to be used with a mouse as I killed the touchpad interface.

Let me know how to check on the screen and I'll get back to you if you can live with the must have mouse.
It was used by one of my kids until I upgraded them to the T60 and T61.

Many of the common generic scanners work fine for basic stuff, but not so great for proprietary codes. And manufacturers like BMW and Mercedes love to make as much proprietary as they can. In other words, why design around a 2.5" drive when you can specify a 2.41273" drive. :)

Bill, on a side note, you may want to look into the Chinese MB STAR C3. They are supposedly a direct copy of the factory Mercedes MB STAR system that cost thousands. There is also good feedback for them. You only need a serial port and a 1.X CPU with 512MB-1GB RAM.

Otherwise you can also clone the HDD you receive with your scanner and use it in any compatible laptop.
