Compact Flash for 600x hard drive?

#1 Post by wkw » Wed Oct 31, 2012 11:44 am

Hello.. Just a little question. I know CF is one in one with the ATA standard, and that there adapters to convert CF into full sized IDE for desktops.

I'm wondering, would a CF card fit in the 600x's drive bay? And if so, what kind of adapter would I need?
My only other option would be to get a pcmcia to CF adapter.. But I do not know if I would have sufficient room for it, with a pcmcia wireless card already installed.

I only ask because a 6GB drive is not enough to do very much with, and the only usb port makes flash drives abnormally hot even when idle. IDE notebook drives also cost far more then I am willing to pay. If I can dump $30 or so for a CF and get 8-16gb, that would be ideal

Thanks

You will probably want an adapter something like this one, if you are going to put the CF card in the HDD bay, replacing you current HDD.

If you just want extra storage space, I would go with a PCMCIA adapter like this, unless you just want to get in on the adventure that is booting from a CF card.
Collection = T500 - R400 - X300 - X200 - T61 (14" WXGA+) - T61 (14.1" SXGA+) - T60 (15" SXGA+) - X40 - T43p - T43 - T42p - A30P - 600E

Hm.. My ignorance seems to play a part here. I wasn't aware that CF cards were so much smaller than notebook drives.

Looking into it.. Does the 600x support a master/slave on the ide drive? One would assume so, but I also have a floppy/cd drive in there, and I'm wondering if that is on its own channel, or it is shared with the disk drive.
