Yes that shouldnt be a problem, but i wouldnt use a 1tb on a notebook, i wouldnt risk to store that much data in it risking that may drop it and HDD stop working or stolen and bye bye data, i have so much data but i keep it at home on my 2tb hard drive, i have about 1tb full and im looking to get another drive and clone it as a back up, i dont want to go thru losing that much data and memories again :| . but if you have a project going then yes 1tb can be installed in it. clone it or reinstall the OS from scratch.

The data loss should not be a problem. I run a raid 1 on the W700ds and I also back up the data periodically.

It is interesting to me that Lenovo doesn't offer a 1T HD for sale for the W700.

thanks

Yeah but you can get any brand, doesnt have to be by lenovo, and the reason why they dont could be a business strategy, we deal with them directly and sometimes doing business with them can be frustrating even as a business partner.

Nothing to do with the business strategy.

Lenovo - just like IBM before them - will not offer an "upgrade" that a machine hasn't originally been available with.

Everyone knows that a 320GB drive will work with a T60, but Lenovo never offered it as an upgrade, nor it ever will.

Many of us have installed 8GB RAM in a R61/T61/X61, but if you ask Lenovo, the maximum RAM for these machines is 4GB.

I could go on, but I'm certain that OP is catching my drift, so to speak...

Thanks everyone. Ater looking and thinking I decided to go with, and have ordered, the Seagate 7200 rpm 750 gig drives rather than the 5400rpm 1Ts.

FYI.

Everything is working perfectly with the 750 gig drives in RAID1.

I have installed the 1TB Western Digital Scorpio Blue, model WD10JPVT, in:

three W500's
a T400's
two X61's with Middleton BIOS

They work fine, provided the driver is obtained here,
http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_ ... ldID=19596

The "Matrix storage manager" on the Lenovo site must not be loaded.
W500x3 with T9900, , T400 highnit 1280x800 with P9600, X61sx3, X61Tx3.
