Persistent Posts in Firefox?
Persistent Posts in Firefox?
Has anyone else using Firefox as their browser noticed a problem on the Forums where topics aren't marked as read after reading them?
E.g., you go into a sub-forum and read or reply to one of the new topics or a new post in a topic, yet when you return to the sub-forum index the topic continues to show as containing new messages. I have to click on "Mark all topics read" to clear the problem. Even this post will show as new rather than read, even though I posted it!
This is strictly a Firefox problem and doesn't occur in IE, nor does it always happen in Firefox but it does happen on several of my machines.
OS is XPSP2 in all instances.
Regards,
James

Re: Persistent Posts in Firefox?
I have noticed this when I hit back button to go back to msg list,. I figured that is just teh way it works.JHEM wrote:Has anyone else using Firefox as their browser noticed a problem on the Forums where topics aren't marked as read after reading them?
When I hit refresh, the topic status does update properly.
It may be due to my tweaking in config options.

I know that in IE there is an option in "Temporary internet files" -> setting, you can seet it to dowload new version everytime, automatic, never etc. I guess if you set this to automatic or everytime, behavior that James is seeing might be avoided.
The reason that you are seeing the read post as unread is because firefox is loading the page from cache, which would be an older version, rather than a new verison from the web server.
If you go to tools -> options-> privacy there is an option for cache. I would have thought there would be an option so you can set it to download the webpage everytime, but there isn't such option. May be if you set the cache to 0 it might work. It might slow down the web browsing though.

Ok I just tried the 0 cache method that I proposed. It did work for first few times. Then, the same behavior comes back. Odd that is doing that even though the cache is 0.
I wonder if I can put a negative number.
EDIT: I forgot to restart firefox after making changes. Now after I restarted it shows all topics are already read.... odd.
