Install XP from old T43 on a new comp?

#1 Post by albo » Sun Nov 11, 2012 9:17 am

Hi Folks,

I have a T43 on which I've installed Windows 7. I'd like to use the key I have from the old version of XP that it came with on a virtual machine. Anyone know where I can find the right XP media? Should I be looking for an "OEM" version or something? Happy to get it off bittorrent or whatever. I tried it with some other XP media I had, but it wasn't liking the serial number that came with my old T43.

Thanks!

It is my understanding that you can't reuse the OEM licence attributed to your T43. Maybe I'm wrong ... no doubt an expert will arrive in due course.

Killer is exactly correct. Microsoft's OEM licenses cannot be legally transferred to different hardware, virtual or not.

If the key was never typed in on any previous XP installs, then you can probably still get it to work, if you don't care about violating the terms of the license. The OEM media is what you would need. Otherwise, you could just use antiwpa.
