Turn Wireless On/Off When Docked?

#1 Post by BillTreloar » Tue Nov 13, 2012 2:46 pm

When my T500 goes to sleep, it turns off wireless. I can easily turn it back on with Fn-F5. But wehen it's in a docking station and closed, my external keyboard doesn't have a Function key. (Of course it has the normal complement of "function" keys F1-F12.)

What key combination can I use on an external keyboard to accomplish the same things as Fvn-F5?

Right click on the internet access icon in your taskbar, select Network and Sharing Center, press Change adapter settings and from there you can enable and disable it :-)

Thanks — but that's not quite what I was looking for.

When my ThinkPad has disabled wireless radios, I can't turn them (it?) back on from here. I need to open the Troubleshooter ... all of which ends up taking a few minutes compared to a few seconds when the laptop's open and I can access the Fn key.

Is it possible there's really no way that's easier and quicker?

If that's true, is there a way to tell my ThinkPad to never turn off the wireless radio in the first place?

Right Click the Access Connections toolbar and select "Manage Wireless Radios."

Thanks! I couldn't find the "Access Connections Toolbar" anywhere, but was able to get to Global Settings and uncheck the option to allow the laptop to turn off wireless when not in use. That should help a lot.

Will that cause any problems when I'm actually connected with an Ethernet cable? Or will wireless simply not be used then?
