Need help buying t400 ac adapter

#1 Post by postdiction » Tue Nov 13, 2012 2:55 pm

Hi,

I have a t400 laptop, it comes with a power adapter Part Number 92P1213.

The cord has started to fray and I would like to buy a replacement. I have had bad luck with buying cheap generic replacement power adapters on Ebay. I lost a 2 laptop motherboards to 1 adapter before I figured out it was bad.

Anyway, I would like to buy a replacement adapter. What is the safest way to get a brand new, genuine AC adapter from Lenovo?

I don't want a used one nor do I want a generic replacement.

Are there any reputable Ebay people who can sell me one?

I found this store on Amazon selling them.

However, it has mixed reviews with some people saying the adapter worked and some saying it died.

I actually don't care if the adapter dies since my original one still works and I can buy a universal adapter in a pinch.

I am more concerned about if I buy a replacement, the replacement adapter damaging my motherboard.

Check with forum member Brad for a new adapter.
Or look on eBay for "genuine lenovo adapter 20v 90w -65w", specify NEW and USA.
such as: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Lenovo-Thinkpad ... 0941547152

Just my opinion, but a used Lenovo OEM adapter purchased from a Forum member should be every bit as good as a new one purchased from lenovo. I checked Lenovo Outlet and there were no AC adapters available.

Here is a link for a 65w adpter from Lenovo.com: http://shop.lenovo.com/SEUILibrary/cont ... de=40Y7696 (It is the $54.99 Thinkpad and Lenovo Battery)

And here is a link for the 90w adapter: http://shop.lenovo.com/SEUILibrary/cont ... us&lang=en (The Thinkpad adapter is the $59.99)

EDIT: RBS, you beat me to it :) I have purchased from Brad on several occasions and have always been pleased with the transaction. You can contact him here: admin edit, email address removed from view, please don't post personal emails, a forum member can be contacted via PM, thanks :)

Thank-you for taking the time to reply.

I noticed both of you mentioned a 90w adapter.

Mine is 65W 20V.

Is there an advantage of a 90W (is 90W more reliable)? Can the additional watts damage my laptop in anyway?

Thanks.

I have two T400 and I use 90 W adapter for each of them. 90 W will not harm the laptop at all. Advantages of 90 W is it charges your laptop faster and will not throttle down the CPU if you use the T400 without a battery.

The marketplace of this forum is a much better place to look for Thinkpad components than eBay.

I have both the 65w and 90w genuine adapters for $16 plus shipping. You can use either, the 90w was optional on the T400, its larger so you if size is important you may want the 65w.

ps. if you buy on ebay, you'll probably get the 3prong adapter that uses a very bulky cord. The ones I have are original 2prong.
