Best way to add bluetooth to T43?

#1 Post by Cowman » Fri Apr 29, 2005 1:08 am

Ok the primary requirement here is that I don't want a usb device because I don't want it sticking out of the side. How feasable is it to add the same bluetooth adapter they would have but in it out of the factory?

Also, what can I get in a PC card?

Want to do this for a wireless mouse, but as I said I don't want anthing that's going to stick out of the notebook.

What's the model number of your TP? It's possible that you already have the BT antenna in your TP, so all you need is a BT/Modem Communication Daughter Card, a clear plate, and you are good to go.

You are lucky! You already have the BT antenna installed in the LCD. All you need is the clear plate (FRU: 13R2455) and the Communication daughter card (FRU: 39T0022, $37.50). You can order the CDC here. For some reason the website doesn't recognize the clear plate's FRU, but you can order it by phone.

You can find a great installiation movie here or look up the Hardware Maintenance Manual for more detailed instructions.

They survive just fine if you take your time removing them and use a fine knife blade (X-acto knife) to do so.

Stick them to a piece of waxed paper and they're easily removed and reused.

Bad news: Your TP doesn't have a BT antenna installed. You need a different BT/modem card for the T42 series. FRU: 91P7319 Price: $64.

I tried to open my thinkpad and I found the white cable connected to my modem. I read from some post here that the white cable is actually the bluetooth antenna cable. Is it true ?
How come bluetooth card for t42p is more expensive than t43 ? Thx U

stapol,

The BT antenna cable has a tab with BT on it, and goes to the direction of the LCD. The modem cable goes to the direction of the RJ-11 (modem/phone) connector.

I've got a t41 (2378-DHU) that i've had about a year or so, i bought and installed the bluetooth antenna and bt daughter card which both worked fine until recently..

my question pertaining to this thread is.. what is the difference between the BMDC that went in the 41's and the BMDC2 that went in the 42's. If the second one is better, can i run it in my old 41? i'm considering upgrading to see if it solves my problem.

thanks!

can you check these models too?

#19 Post by jsklar » Wed Jun 01, 2005 6:34 am

what about 2668C6U or 2668C2U

i can't afford to not buy a t43 with EDU discounts for $1824 (2668C6U) or $1720 (2668C2U) but i want to add bluetooth and neither of them come with it.

now i just need to decide if i want to spend an extra $96 for a DVD writer...

thanks ;)

would someone just post the procedure for finding out based on model number? Instead of depending on people to come across this thread and look it up for them? is it in the HMM?

also.. anyone have an answer to my question about bt cards? know what the difference is?
