Anyone know if there is bluetooth for the 2668_83U? I checked manual but can't seem to verify for sure if there is one.

In HHM page 223 (page number printed on the page), your model is listed as having a bluetooth antenna.

hi all,

just to verify, my model is 2686NAU. i'm reading hiyel HHM page citation as saying my unit also has a factory bluetooth antenna. is that right?

TIA

Little a:
We have the same model, and yes there is a BT antenna in that model.
Also you can check the gap below the left hinge, you should see three wires: black and grey for WiFi antenna, and white for BT antenna.
Here is a picture of mine:

ok, not sure what to do now. IBM parts says my model did not come with bluetooth antenna (even though mine looks the same as hiyel's pic, black wire and all), does the black wire mean that the antenna is there for sure?

more troubling, they say the CDC is either $104 (39t0024) or $78 (39t0026), and the clear plate is now $16 (26R8409). when i mentioned the part number for the CDC posted earlier on this thread (39T0022), they said it is no longer made.

What do you mean by "IBM parts"? The tabook.pdf file, or somebody you talked? Your model has a BT antenna, it's listed in tabook. The hinge is one of the ways to check this. Black wire doesn't mean you have BT antenna, black and grey are for WiFi antenna. White wire is for BT. I think I labeled the picture clearly. The other way is taking the keyboard off and see if it's there.

Yes, they change the FRU number constantly, but it's the same part, and you can't order the old ones, you have to order the most current one. 39t0026 was what I ordered. I payed $84 CAD + tax a month ago.

sorry, i meant that i called tech support.

i got the wires mixed up (you labeled your pic quite clearly). like i said, i can see all three wires under the hinge, it looks just like yours. but the tech who looked up my specific model/serial number said there was no bluetooth antena on my unit. so, like i said, i'm not sure what that means. if the cable alone indicates the antenna then it's a mistake on IBM's part. now if the cable doesn;t mean anything in and of itself, well, then no bluetooth for my machine :)

i can't believe the *same* bluetooth card that used to cost $37 now costs twice as much! what a ripoff

You asked "does the black wire mean that the antenna is there for sure?"
and I said "Black cable doesn't mean anything". Beacuse it's the WHITE cable.

They told me the same thing too, I told them that I opened it and saw it with my eyes. Somehow our unit doesn't appear as BT upgradable on their list. Just take the keyboard off and check it, you're gonna have to do it eventually.

On the parts page posted on the first page of this thread. Its on order (2-4 weeks) though. Shipping is hefty $13.50 though.

Edit: Holy crap. I just got it today (Friday...~24 hours from the time of order)...one day shipping. Too bad the actual card is on backorder. Anyways, screw kit = ALL the screws on a T4x. And the clear plate = ALL the clear plates for a T4x, ever.

Ok- so i've got a t40 2373-75U with no antenna built in and a t42 2378-duu with a built in antenna. i'm interested in putting the bluetooth in the t40 and not the 42... i found a compact 2.4ghz antenna on ebay http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... %3AIT&rd=1 and i'm wondering if it would be better/easier to either get that antenna and attach it inside near the daughter board somewhere or cannibalize the t42 antenna for use in the t40... i'm probably going to just buy the antenna anyway...

Also- there are so many BT daughter boards... which one is the newest that will work with a t40?
i've seen fru 91p7315 91P7319 93P3471 39T0026

Thanks

For the T40 you can only use BMDC (I). I think 91p7315 is the part# you need.

I believe I have the Antenna.

Which Bluetooth Daughter card options will work & what are their differences, advantages etc & prices?

(There seem to be several)

What sources can they be purchased from? Which one would be cheaper?

just as a follow up (long overdue by not), it turns out that hiyel was right on, my 2868 T43 does have an antenna. it was not working because i needed to i update BIOS and Embedded Controller and it powered up just fine. i guess that solves the mystery, white cable is the Bluetooth antenna even if IBM techs tell you otherwise

thanks all

Search is your friend, Crash. I'm sure this or other related threads discuss part numbers for each system. (Actually the previous page of this thread lists the FRU number. ;) )

Clue here ... http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/IBM_Integ ... 8BMDC-3%29

From the very page I just friggin' linked to:
Hint:
To check if your T4x laptop has a BlueTooth antenna, check the parts list for the specific model. More directly, you can check whether there is a white antenna wire (in addition to the two WiFi antenna cables, which are gray and black) passing through the left LCD hinge: either peek through the small hole in front of the left hinge, or remove the keyboard and inspect the wires near the CDC (see here or here).
My TAWBOOK.PDF lists those 2373's as having Bluetooth optional, so look carefully. Happy huntin'.

Thanks davidspalding, I read the link but the only "white wire" I see is behind the modem module itself ( right rear corner in pic ). Is it supposed to be grouped with the gray and black wire?

Yes. Grey wire ... white wire ... both going to LCD hinge and into LCD/lid assembly.

I urge you to look at these pics thoughtfully.

Now. Pay attention. Compare your pic with this pic. I think your answer is staring right back at you.

And with that, I am OUTTA HERE. {poof!}

OK, I physically took the card out and looked under it to make sure and there is none :(..

My next question is has anyone had any experience with this antenna ??

If so how well does it work (it sure would save some headaches!)
