I want to add it in my t42p 2373-7xu. Thx

:)
Bad news: Your TP doesn't have a BT antenna installed. You need a different BT/modem card for the T42 series. FRU: 91P7319 Price: $64.

A little late I know, but for the record, I have a 7XU and it does come with the antenna. Pics here:

bluetooth antenna

I don't know if this is any use for anybody but, the FRU of the bluetooh antenna is 91P6897, if you dare to crack open the LCD lid, it's only $6.80.

Heh-heh, "if you dare."

Folks, I might be wrong, but if you read the TABOOK, it will indicate clearly under CDC if the models on the current page have BT installed or optional. Clearly if a 2668-xxx (I couldn't find -BJU) has BT "Some," then it's a fair bet that the antenna is in there. Other pages, you'll see "Bluetooth: None." This is not advanced calculus.

As for the instructions in HMM, check out item 1080 - BMDC-3 (HMM 39T2393). Step 5 is the RF antenna. I'd imagine if you find the antenna lead, you have an antenna at the other end.

Bluetooth Antenna in the LCD Frame? Ummmmm

David is right. I do know that the Bluetooth is under the keyboard, as well as the antenna, the antenna may extend into the screen. The only antennas that are in the LCD frame are the the two WiFi antennas that, if I remember correctly, are under the texturized plastic tabs on the sides of the Frame. :)

Here are some Pictures, courtesy of Forum Member Kenn (:)) dealing with Bluetooth.

Cheers :)

Btw, does anyone knows which version of Bluetooth is installed on the T4x?

1.1 , 1.2 or 2.0

Thanks!

I'm not talking about opening the LCD to check if the antenna is there or not. I'm just saying that if you don't have a BT antenna pre-installed, and if you dare to open the LCD lid, you can just buy the antenna for 7 bucks and install it.

Well yes, the BT antenna IS attached to the side of the LCD frame on the 14.1" models, and to the bottom of the 15" models. See page 221 (pdf's page count) of the HMM, the item 5 is the BT antenna.

Looking at the link christopher_wolf provided above, you will read the following in addition to the pics provided.
Kenn Hwang wrote:Thanks, I found out that the bluetooth antenna is indeed behind the screen :)

The thing is, some non-bluetooth thinkpads have the antenna already installed, some don't. The ones that don't are not upgradable without a lot of hard work. Apparently, mine is pre-installed so I only have to pop in a bluetooth mini-PCI card to get it working! Good news indeed!
This agrees with what I have read previously in other threads on our forum here. The antenna itself is behind the display, but the antenna wire extends to the mini-PCI card under the keyboard. This mini-PCI card is normally a modem, but can be replaced with the bluetooth/modem combo card.

But it is behind the screen, correct? Not running up the side of the frame. :?

This guy sells the antenna on ebay and he has some pictures of it, it looks like it's on the side of the LCD frame.

If you look at the Hardware Maintenance Manual for the T42, the 14.1" model has the antenna running up the left side of the display housing. The 15" model has the antenna at the bottom of the display lid, about one third the way over from the left. I looks like it may go partly behind the LCD - I'm not sure.

I just installed the 39T0026 daughter card in my T43. It works fine after I got it configured. Does the think metal piece that comes with the 39T0026 used in the installation or is it to assist in removing the antenna connection from the card?

Hi guys,

I just bought 2668-6EH, I assumed there is a BT antenna inside..80% confident there is

Anyone have link that I can buy the BMDC3, Clear Plate & Screw Kit outside US? I tried the US website but applicable only for those who stay there

I'm a seaman and the nearest port I can go is Hong Kong, did check with IBM Hong Kong but they don't have it.

Thanks in advance.

Driven by curiosity I open my T43 2668-6EH and found out that BT antenna is pre-installed, I just need to buy BMDC3,clear plate and screw kit (Thanks Kenn for the pic)

Now I will check my T42 2373-NTH whether it has BT antenna or not, will let you guys know afterwards.

it's not difficult to check, only 4 screws...

anyone have good link that I can but the parts outside US or ship int'l?

Thanks

it's inside the LCD casing. On T4x there's a smooth 2" plastic piece (between 2 screws covered by rectangular stick-ons) on the left of your LCD case, the BT antenna is under there.

Again on T4x, one WiFi antenna is behind the screws left of the LED light (the screws are covered by the square stick-ons). The other one is in the right-top corner of your LCD casing -- actually you can feel its plastic cover on the right side of the LCD cover -- it's ribbed for your pleasure. :)

With no experience but with patience and the right tools/ogranization it would take around 30-45 minutes to figure everything out and disassemble the LCD cover, so you can install the BT antenna.

The abovementioned ebay seller also has a non-IBM BT antennae which are much smaller and you can try to hide them somewhere inside the Thinkpad if you don't have the BT antenna installed and don't want to mess with it. The range will be affected, but it's still OK for the mouse and using your cellphone as a modem (unless you'd want to walk away from the Thinkpad with it).

Hi All !! Happy New Year !!

Yesterday I just noticed before I off from my duty  (On New Year....), I saw this 3 cable clearly from outside, located near the left hinges.

Last week I opened my TP just to find out whether there's a BT antenna cable pre-installed inside. it was the white cable tug under the modem card.

Kindly confirm whether others have the same access (that they can view with naked eyes from outside without opening the keyboard to find out)

This is what I saw last night Image

Interesting. On my T42 I can definitely see (2) wires there. One black and one white. It appears there may be another white wire to the right of the lid switch, but it's kind of hard to make out. I do not have bluetooth installed - at least not yet.

I just check my other T42 2373-NTH and found out that there's only 2 cable, so I guess there's no BT antenna installed.

I checked out my T43 with Bluetooth; it looks like I have three wires going into the LCD Frame via the left hinge. They are, going from left to right; Black Light Gray, and White.

I have the bluetooth that originally came with my T40p (I think it might be II or III)... is there any reason to upgrade it to the latest hardware? (i think it is 39T0026?). I think it will get me the latest version of the WIDCOMM software, but what will this do for me?

Thanks,
Leo

while this is semi-bumped... I just read this whole thread, I assume the 0022 part was replaced by 0026..

0022 says call for availability so I assume they are not being made anymore, the 0026 is of course, twice as much... does anyone know what the deal is and why it is so much?

Okay, I'll bite - is there? ;)

Check the forum FAQ, there's a link to ThinkPad removal and installation videos. There's one there for Bluetooth/modem MDCs which ought to help you.

I ordered the 26 one, they just said 22 has been discontinued and 26 replaced it. However I ordered it in january, it was on backorder for two months, they even called me to see if I still want it cause they don't know when they will have it. Finally it arrived last tuesday.
