T420s built in microphone not working

#1 Post by juchem » Tue Nov 13, 2012 6:58 pm

I'm using Debian (Unstable repo) with kernel 3.5 from experimental repo, but I tried several flavors of kernel (mainly 3.2) from unstable and testing repos, and also 3.4 from experimental.
The microphone hardware doesn't get detected. I heard this is a common issue under linux.

Anyone has been lucky with this or knows how to fix it or workaround?

What do you mean with a builtin microphone anyway? The one on the palmrest?

You know that everything newer than X60/T60 have crippled soundcard and won't simply allow you to do silly things such as

mplayer *mp3
ffmpeg -f alsa -i plughw output.mp3

(well this work if you use a loopback cable from headphone to line-in) but that makes no sense at all.

And.. yeah, you can actual make a switch in alsamixer pressing Tab key to get into [Capture] Try changing 'Mic' To 'Internal mic'. Perhaps there's no internal mic in it?
