The user of an Edge 14 dropped the laptop with the power adapter inserted.
When it hit the floor, the force of the impact pushed the power jack inside the laptop case.
By power jack, I mean this:
http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/3 ... AA300_.jpg
It looks like the tabs that held the yellow component in place were torn off.
Part of the outside case, right next to the receptable for the power jack, is missing too (broken off - you would have thought they threw the thing in a fit of anger).
How could this be repaired?
We are thinking of using a hot glue gun to secure the yellow jack to part of the internal frame in such as way that the power adapter could be inserted into the jack.
Is this doable?
If we opted to replace the entire case, where could you get one? I've been googling for lenovo thinkpad case but am just getting carrying cases.
Of course, the case would have to be for the Edge 14.
And of course, removing all the internals and placing them in a new case would be very time consuming.
The cost of the unit was around $450.
I'm thinking that unless the glue gun option works, cost of replacement parts and labor (if we have someone lese do this) could attain the cost of the laptop itself. Am I right?
Broken power jack on Edge 14
Re: Broken power jack on Edge 14
I have used epoxy to fill in the gap and hold the jack in place, but hot glue would probably work just the same. Yes, labor and parts can exceed the value of the laptop easily. Replacement parts are usually found at good prices on ebay.DM1 wrote:The user of an Edge 14 dropped the laptop with the power adapter inserted.
