yes :(

The NY state edu rep. says that it should be less than a month but I don't know who to believe. Hope for the best, expect the worst.

Well I just cancelled my T43p order. :(
I have decided to upgrade the HD in my A21p and wait things out a little while. I am not sure if my job situation is going to change (a new company may provide one, or prohibit IBM) and I had some other expenses (new road bicycle) become a higher priority. I will definitely keep coming back to see what everyone's thoughts are when they get theirs. Also, with me cancelling my 2668 H2U order, maybe someone else's will be bumped up in the queue. :) Thanks to all for comiserating in the wait.

Mine just got bumped up to 7/20 recently. I emailed my rep and said not to ship the extra battery before the system ships. I said that if the system continues to be delayed further I may want to be able to cancel my order (to buy something different) without having to send back the battery.

edit: It just moved another day, now its saying the 21st

My ship date currently says 06/07/05. I'll post if it changes on Monday. I actually had a rep call me last week, but I was unavailable. It was in regards to a letter I wrote.

Juse saw Edbern said:
My IBM (I mean Lenovo) rep says the IBM->Lenovo transition was mishandled and Customs is now holding up a ton of machines and making Lenovo redo paperwork -- and that this is causing numerous delays. My guy had 10 orders rescheduled (a month or more) on Friday alone.

Including of course mine. April order, now July forecast delivery.
What a mess!

Wow, that is unreal! You'd think customs paperwork is something both these companies can do in their sleep since so much of their product comes into the US & Europe.

Hopefully they get it resolved quickly!

Wow

Did not realize you guys are STILL waiting for the T43P.

Oldtimers here said the original 60 day shipdates were wrong but it's looking like they are fairly accurate.

I believed the estimates (no faith in IBM, they were getting short, hopefully Lenovno will do better).

For mine, it shows "Scheduled to ship 5/17/05" even now. Calling IBM doesn't help.

I have my eyes at the Dell M70 now also. If I see good coupons available, I will most likely cancel too and switch.

One question:

When will they charge your credit? After confirming your shipping address or after shipping?

After they shipped the item, your credit card will be charged. It may also happens when you received that item, but it is rare. I think sometime they "forget" to charge you when they ship it, but they will definitely charge you after you receive that item.

My T42 (with a 1.8 CPU) has posted as "shipped" on Lenovo's status page, and I do have a UPS tracking number, although so far "billing info received" is the only step. As of now my credit card hasn't been charged, but I expect it to be soon as the mini-docks were charged right after they shipped.

The reason I ask this question is: I ordered on May 21, yesterday, May 23, they emailed me to call them to confirm the shipping address. And then I noticed my available credit line has decreased the amount of my T43, but there is no transaction shown. So I am not sure what does this mean? Has they charged it and it will take several days for my credit card company to show that? Or what?

Charging the cost

#107 Post by Sleepy » Tue May 24, 2005 10:42 am

I have been reading the bord for quite a while and finally I registered today :) I plan to order a laptop some time soon, but I was wondering (given the shiping delay) when do they actually charge your credit card? Once the laptop ships or as soon as you place the order?

It is just on hold. You available credit will shrink. They didn't charge it yet. You can call the credit company to get it back. I don't know this before, I called the credit company to get my available credit back since it is in my account for one month. In fact, the Lenovo just to prepare to charge you.

Haha, prepare to charge you, that's a good word to describe it. It just takes them so long to prepare!

The same could be said about how many of us prepare to buy a Thinkpad for so long!

BTW, a lot of companies do this with larger purchases before shipping. It's a way to both verify available credit and it also raises flags if something isn't right with your acct (eg the card has been stolen, ect).

Well, I am still preparing to receive my T43p :)

Anyway, they just reserve the amt 1st to verify that you can pay, but did not really charge. I got the "reserved" amount back after some time, so I guess actual charging shd be when they ship.

One story to share:

I called the Lenovo this afternoon. One guy received the call told me my computer is shipped, but there is no tracking information yet. I don't believe it is true. My order has been in "packing" for 4 weeks. He told me I can receive my order before this friday. I doubt this because he can't provide me any tracking number or related information.

2687e4u, I ordered at April 19.

Since I have received 3 items in my order, the left one is this computer. I think maybe they are confused by the received items. The computer is stuck at "packing" status. When I checked it, it still shows "ETA time: June 22"

What kind of items have you received? Don't they put the options into the computer and ship the full system?

The 9-Cell, the IBM wireless card and the CD_RW-DVD combo

I just ordered the open bay. I worked at that time. Even the rep is surprised with this. Last week, the rep wanted me change the order since the long waiting time, but he can't find find any model that can compete the price I get. If I order from him, I can't get this open bay since it must be a "system".

I recommand all of you to check the status tomorrow to find out the real state and report here :) :)

Two items I received are always in the "packing" status. I was charged after I received!

I don't know. At least my model didn't. I think I will have some fun to play with those components. If you have the OS with your order, I think they will assemble for you.
