Hi, I have just wiped the hd of my T23 & reinstalled XP Pro using recovery disks, also installed SP2 & SP3. Every thing seems o.k. except the wifi is not working. If I plug a cable into the ethernet socket I can access the internet, but when I click the wi-fi icon in the notification area it says 'no wireless networks were found in range' The Device manager says that the network adapter is 'IBM High Rate Wireless Lan MiniPCI Combo Card' driver version 1.7.25.0. Intel Pro/100 VE network connection I then installed driver version 2.0.9.0 which made things worse! (eliminated wi-fi icons) so I 'rolled back driver ' now I am back to square one, still no wireless internet acces! (the wife's laptop works wireless) Any solutions?

IBM High Rate Wireless Lan MiniPCI Combo Card is only 802.11B and your router might not even send on the B-band.
You need to replace it with e.g. the Intel 2200BG or go fancy and look for an 802.11N card like the Broadcom BCM43222 which receives both 2.4GHz and 5.0GHz signals.
You'd lose your modem and you probably need to apply the NO-1802 hack to get either one going.

Thanks for info', I didn't realise that my existing card only worked on 'B' band as I had no problem with my old Belkin router. When I read your reply it dawned on me that I recently changed the Belkin to a D-Link router (supplied by the cable co.) so I assume it doesn't broadcast the 'B' band. The wife has a new laptop which picks up many signals, but I still like to use my T23 & I would like to fit a Broadcom BCM43222 card to go 'wireless' again. So if anyone has put one of these cards into a T23 & it works please send me any info' & drivers needed.

Many modern router have different broadcasting modes, that you can switch between in the Router's control panel. For Belkin, I believe this is accessible through 192.168.1.1, not sure about D-Link. You can check it in the user manual of your router. Anyways-

Most routers that are capable of Wireless N, are by default set to a g/n only wireless broadcasting mode. It was this way with my netgear, but after some prodding in the control panel, it turned out my Netgear had an option to broadcast in a mixed b/g/n mode, so Wireless B cards can connect. I imagine the D-Link, provided it's a fairly good, new router, has this capability.

I have it set to this always, so my Thinkpad G40s have no problem connecting to receive updates!

I would recommend at least getting some Wireless G hardware on though, because although most public places broadcast Wireless B, you never know if you'll get caught without Wi-Fi due to having a B-only card.

I would like to update my T23 wireless problem, I now suspect that the card is not working as when I hover over the icons in the notification area I get messages such as 'Not Linked' etc. when I go to 'view wireless networks' the message says 'No netwoks in range' I know this is wrong as previously there was & the wifes laptop shows 6-8 broadcasting. I have tried to locate a similar a card without luck, but now have a Intel 2200bg card that I shall install, but have been warned that I may have to do a NO-1802 hack. I have not heard of this before so would be grateful for any info' about this & where to get this 'program'(?) from & do I install it before or after the card?

You need to do it BEFORE you install the new wifi card.

OK, here is a little tidbit.

I recently sold a T23, and it needed the wireless card in my
"keeper" T23. I had an ABC card out of a junk T40 kicking
around. Installed it in the 23, went to Lenovo, downloaded
the drivers for a non Intel abc card, and it's working.

Yes, I lost the modem capability, if I care.

Atheros ar5mb-44 card, if anyone is interested.
