T400 freezes after disconnecting power from dock

#1 Post by Mighty_Mauz » Fri Nov 30, 2012 6:50 am

I have my ThinkPad T400 at home always docked in my advanced mini dock. And the problem is that when it is docked and there is a power blackout or the power cable is disconnected from the dock, the laptop freezes. I need to do a hard reboot (holding down the power button for a few seconds) and I lose all my current work. As power blackouts are very common here I was wondering if there is a workaround that can let it continue to run on its battery. I mean, if I dock it without the power cable, it also works on the battery. The problem only occurs when the power is connected and then becomes disconnected while the laptop is running. Any advice?

I cannot give any advice on why this is happening or what is causing it. I can however say that if this was occurring to me often, where I lose what I am working on, I would invest in a Uninterruptable Power Supply for the docking station. Here in the states, we have Tripplite, APC, and CyberPower as good brands to consider.
