T42p startup problem

When starting up my T42p, if it's got AC power, the green battery light goes out and the unit won't start. If I remove & replace the battery it starts up. I can then plug the adapter back in and everything is fine, including battery charging. I've tried using 2 different batteries, both fine, & 2 different power adapters, both IBM. This happens whether it's plugged into the dock or not. I've seen posts about similar problems, but not exactly this.
