How to check if the X220 I am buying is a genuine one?

#1 Post by petko8680 » Mon Dec 03, 2012 10:19 am

Hi there,
saw an advert for "as new" thinkpad x220 which is going for £400. Just wanted to know how can I check if it is a genuine x220 and not some Chinese assembeled one with non-branded parts. thanks

Huh...

I've seen thousands of ThinkPads over the past 12-13 years but have yet to stumble across a fake one...

Don't worry, if it were truly entirely fake it might be worth even more than 400 simply for novelty...

And that sounds like a fair price, CPU is usually the chief dictator of cost. The i5's are the middle of the road, while the i3 or i7 would bump the price one way or the other. From what I've seen recently i5 models are going for around $500-$600 on ebay.

A month ago I've got my X220 i5 for 380 euro.
Before to pay I've requested the "serial" and checked for it on lenovo website.

That of course won't tell if it's stolen. I don't think £400, which is about $650, seems unreasonably low, but then again I've gathered in my time here notebooks are more expensive across the pond.

Download and install Belarc Advisor. Read the output report to get specs on hardware and software. Also use Lenovo software to identify the serial number. Contact Lenovo to determine if there is a match.
