Lenovo ThinkVision LT2452p 24" monitor: how good is it?

#1 Post by Nickolai » Tue Dec 04, 2012 9:25 am

I am choosing a monitor for myself now and I consider Lenovo ThinkVision LT2452p 24". How good is it?

When thinking of hardware I consider Lenovo. I'm fairly happy with my Lenovo USB keyboard that I use with my laptop when at home, now I'm thinking about new monitor too.

I'm not tracking the current developments in monitors in general, let alone Lenovo monitors, but I appreciate quality. My brother bought Dell U2711 (approx. $900+) in October 2010, back when they were new and we're both still thrilled about it (though I read about problems like uneven brightening, I couldn't see any). Now can I buy a monitor of similar quality for much less (especially if I'm willing to go down in display size)? This one seems to cost seems a bit over $400.

The LT2452p seems to be a nice IPS monitor. Very similar to the DELL U2412M, down to the choice of inputs (DispayPort, DVI and VGA) and the built-in USB hub.

Ok, a bit of research shows that Lenovo LT2452p as well as Dell U2412M in fact has E-IPS matrix (2009 tech) as opposed to H-IPS (2007 tech) on Dell U2711. That's good, I guess, considering that older Dell is good as it is. Current Dell U2713HM, on the other hand, boasts AH-IPS (2011 tech) but it's about $800 here.

So what do you think, is Lenovo monitor a good choice for its money? I am unsure because people are asking on the forums for "a good monitor for £100" and such: I didn't miss the huge price drop and am not simply overpaying here, did I?

I don't know about prices and what's considered good, much less in Russia. I found that prices can fluctuate greatly in different countries between different brands, depending on supply and demand, to the point where brand A may be significantly cheaper than brand B in country A, and in country B the situation can be reversed.

U2412M is usually competitively priced. If the LT2452p costs the same or less - it's probably a good buy.

For example, the U2412M starts at about $350 here in Israel, and that's including the 17% VAT. Lenovo monitors seem to be far less available here - I couldn't find a place that sells them.

As a rule, computer hardware and consumer electronics are generally available at comparable prices here, maybe a tad pricier than in the US. Some brands get much more expensive and/or rare: Apple hardware is much more expensive, Thinkpads expensive and nearly non-existent. Ideapads and monitors sell, but I had to source keyboard from a company that normally works with corporate clients (It's turned out to be an ok classic keyboard, but not especially great). Dell monitor is $400 here and Lenovo is a little bit pricier than that.

I think unless some entirely new information will surface, I'll choose Lenovo over Dell out of brand loyalty. Looks like these monitors are pretty good and for the price, and contemporary too. Cheap 27" are 1920x1080 which is smaller than 1920x1200 of these 24" monitors.

Interesting thing is, there are surprisingly many complaints even about the pricier Dell U2711/U2713HM which is a bit pricey for me now anyway. I wonder if it is in part because those who choose near top-end models are harder to please?

In part, yes. But I have and had quite a few DELL monitors - and some of them do have quality control issues and large variability between different units.

Nonetheless, I still buy them because of competitive pricing and good availability.
