Could I fit a 3G card from newer Thinkpad to work with Win8?

#1 Post by phil81uk » Sat Dec 08, 2012 3:06 am

So my X301's F3507g mobile broadband card doesn't work with Windows 8 despite hours of trawling through the internet looking for a solution.

I see that newer X series machines are fitted with a F5321gw which is also described as a Mini PCI Express card. They are on eBay for £60. Would it be possible to fit one of these to my X301? Would it have to be a F5321gw that was designed for Thinkpad, or would a used one pulled from a Dell or HP work as well?

Regardless of whose F5321gw you install -- Lenovo/Dell/HP/others -- the X301 will need a modified BIOS to accept the card. Additionally, you may need to tape Pin-20 on the card so that it is not turned off at boot up. Read the PM (Private Message) that I sent you.

Great, that worked :) That must have been posted after I'd searched for a solution

EOMtp, appreciate the help. I was a bit scared if installing the modified BIOS, but probably would have given it a go with your advice.
