Hello, This is my first post here although I've been reading several of the other threads. I was looking for some information on what to do when my new X230 arrives. I have never owned a laptop before and recently took advantage of the Black Friday sale.
The reason for my purchase is I want to be able to get out of my home office at times so I wanted something very portable. The X230 seemed like the right choice and I'm considering a docking station so I can just grab and go. One thing I'm concerned about is the touch pad and I'm hoping I can get use to it (again I've never owned a laptop before).
So other than making sure it boots into Windows what would you advise I check and do when my laptop arrives to make sure all is good? Are there any known issues to check for, any tests I need to run, anything to look for as far as build quality? Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you.
The specs are:
X230 Intel i5-3210M - 1 Year Depot Warranty
Windows 7 Home Premium 64
12.5HD Premium Display 3x3 NC
4 GB PC3-12800 DDR3 (1 DIMM)
320GB HDD 7200rpm
9cell, ThinkPad Battery X44++
Intel Centrino Ultimate-N 6300
Mobile Broadband upgradable

New X230 Owner: Advice Needed
Re: New X230 Owner: Advice Needed
Congrats, the X230 is the best ultraportable on the market right now in my opinion. I had the good fortune to review one earlier this year. I don't think there's a need to be fussy about it. If something's amiss, it'll stand out. I'd say just enjoy it for a bit.
The mSATA SSD is a good option to boost performance and the small ones are fairly inexpensive. You might want to go through the programs and dump anything you're not going to use. Good luck and welcome to TPF.

Thanks, I read at the Lenovo Community forum that installing an mSATA drive voids the warranty (Click HERE to read the post).
It was still rather unclear to me after reading that post if it actually voids the warranty or not.
My X230 is scheduled to be delivered tomorrow. I must say I was rather surprised to see its was coming from China.
