It is not. The max memory for the X220 is 16GB and 8GB for the X200. Often the memory specifications are published when the machine is released, then never updated.

I can't show you were it's printed, but it does indeed take 16GB of memory. Many members here have done it.

I have a sneaking suspicion that it will someday be discovered that the x230 will actually support 32GB (16GB x 2)

I have a business partner who's currently in taiwan. He has located 16gb ddr3 modules (1x16gb). I have no idea if they're for sale, but one of the businnessmen he spoke with showed him some sort of pre production ultraportable laptop with 2x16gb ram.

I asked him if he could get some, but i havent heard back from him yet.

Despite being speced out at 8GB, has anyone tried 16GB on an x201 and gotten full useability? Meaning the x201 (i5 540 @ 2.53GhZ) Meaning able to actually use the full 16GB? Thanks in advance.

It won't work, sorry. Trust me, I've tried this with a T410 (same generation as the x201) - I bought the RAM and it did not work - that CPU is limited to 8gb of RAM - it's all the memory controller can address. It's the reason I sold my T410 and bought a T420 - I needed 16gb of RAM.
